Was it avoidable to make a “hero” out of Saddam
Hussein

Faleh Al-Saadi
Saddam Hussein has killed hundred thousands of Iraqi and
Irani people and thousands of Kuwaitis. It seems impossible
to count the number of crimes he has committed against humanity.
For decades he was a threat for the region.
If the CIA couldn’t find an evidence for his alliance with
al Qaeda it doesn’t mean, it never existed.
Many Iraqi political observers know very well, that al Qaeda
operated freely in Iraq during the last years of Saddams rule.
In the eyes of the Iraqis he was a criminal and should have
been treated as such.
Instead he was treated through the Iraqi government and the
Americans as a pampered political prisoner. Many Iraqis think
that he had been given too much rights so he could abuse the
court as propaganda tribune for the terrorism. This caused
more suffering for the Iraqi people and the American soldiers
and encouraged more sectarian attacks. He was allowed to defend
himself or choose a lawyer, to do so, he had the right of
free speech and suffered neither of hunger, thirst or torture.
All rights that where not given to any of the accused men
and women during his reign.
The Arabic and the international media accused the Iraqi government
and the Americans of bad treatment of Saddam Hussein.
Who cares about the fact that Iraq and the USA are democratic
countries and have their constitutions which respects human
rights even of a criminal such as Saddam.
He and his followers as well as the Islamic terrorists and
the media that support them don’t appreciate or care about
these values.
None of the followers of Saddam or the terrorists care about
the fact that the international media waits in every corner
for any error that the US president may make to crack down
upon him.
These people doesn’t appreciate values such as free press,
democracy, constitution, human rights. They think, that giving
Saddam Hussein the rights I mentioned, indicates, that the
Iraqi government is “weak” and they are “strong”. We are “cowards”
and they are “heroes”.
They think and tell in their media that they “force” us to
behave they way we behave.
We as Iraqis and as Americans pay very high tribute for our
values, that they don´t care about.
The dilemma we run into is, to ask our selves: What is more
important for us ?.
Our values or what these people do and tell?
Our values or what some of the media reports?
I think our values are the most important thing of our endeavor
to build the new Iraq.
It is important to make other people especially in the Arabic
and the Islamic world understand why we couldn’t avoid, that
our stubbornly clinging to our values has been abused by the
terrorists against us.
To tell the world why it was not avoidable to let a criminal
like Saddam to appear as though he were a “hero”.
